The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed. So Moses said, “I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up.” When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” (Exodus 3:2-4)

There are things in life that catch our eye, sparkling things, weird things, beautiful things. When we see it we slow down and turn to look. There is something about it that captivates us, that draws us away from the ordinary and invites us into something new. Turning aside can be the first step to a new adventure.

God sent an angel to camp out in a desert shrub. The presence of the angel and the glory of the Lord that was upon the angel made the bush appear to burn with a living flame. The fire of God doesn’t consume like earthly fire. The fire of God burns to strengthen and rejuvenate. It is like no other flame. As Moses found out, what it touches, it makes holy.

God is waiting for us to turn aside. Throughout God’s history with us He issues an invitation to come. In the garden, knowing what already happened at the Tree of Knowledge, God called out; He invited. He is calling out for our companionship. He knows our problems, our shortcomings and our sin. He also knows the plans He has and the passions He has placed deep within our hearts. There are abilities in us that only a deep relationship with God can awaken.

There is an invitation from God to know Him. Knowing Him will turn into an adventure with Him. He is looking for those who will share His heart and share His passions for people, life and healing.

In this new season, God is sending a burning angel to you. Will you turn aside to look? Will you linger and listen? God is waiting for you to give your eyes to Him so that He can consume your heart. Answer the invitation. Turn aside.
