Within the discussion of our Kingdom Cultures at HRock, a culture of generosity starts with God!

Every good and perfect gift is from above coming down from the Father of lights…” – James 1:17

God is so generous that He did not even spare His own son!

God so loved the word that He GAVE His only son…” – John 3:16

He is a lavish Father who wants to give good things to His children (Matthew 7:11). He also desires that His people care for the poor (Isa. 58:6-7; James 1:27).

In his book The Grace of Giving, Pastor Ché Ahn astutely writes,

Jesus made it clear that taking care of the less fortunate divides believers from the unbelievers at the final judgment.”

Throughout the Old and New Testaments, God’s people are to use their wealth wisely and to demonstrate generosity—precisely because the act of giving is a reflection of the nature of God, the ultimate Giver! No wonder Jesus is quoted as teaching, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

To give is to be like God.

Christlike giving is not a formula for getting God to bless us with prosperity. Christlike giving is an opportunity to grow in conformity to our Father God’s image, to become willing and joyful givers even as He is”. – Che Ahn (The Grace of Giving)

Finances are just one way we learn to express generosity, but it can also look like being generous with our words, our time, our skills and even our relationships.
