Guten Tag!

Today I’m on my way to Austria after a wonderful time in Saratov, Russia, last week with Word of Life Church. As I was speaking on The Power of Fatherhood at the conference, God was releasing kingdom truths about His heart for Russia, and many church leaders encountered the Holy Spirit in amazing ways!

I’ll be in Vienna, Austria, this week for a few days, with a short visit in between on June 17 as I go to visit my friends at Christian Family Church in Hungary. For those in Vienna, I’ll be speaking at Four Corners Christian Fellowship on June 16, so join us that evening if you can!

“…How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” – Luke 11:13

Last week we dove into Scripture and saw different ways we can lead a Holy Spirit-filled life. This week I want to continue the conversation and share more practical ways you can enjoy a life empowered by the Spirit!

The Power of Praying in the Spirit

Among the many types of prayer we find in Scripture, one I’d like to highlight is “praying in the Spirit” or “praying in tongues.”

After His resurrection, Jesus told His disciples a sign that “will follow those who believe” is that “they will speak with new tongues” (Mark 16:17). Praying in tongues was a common manifestation in the early Church, starting at the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:4) and continuing as a common practice for Christ followers, most notably the apostle Paul (1 Cor. 14:18).

We cooperate with the Holy Spirit, in humility and surrender, when we let Him help us pray in the way described in Romans 8:26-27: “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.”

Some of the great benefits of praying in the Spirit:

1. Praying in tongues helps you build your spiritual life! (1 Cor. 14:4)

2. Praying in tongues helps you pray God’s will! (Rom. 8:27)

3. Praying in tongues helps you battle the forces of darkness! (Eph. 6:10-18)

Check out this highlight from my message on June 7, 2015, as I share a testimony about the Life-Saving Power of Speaking in Tongues!
