Senior Pastors Gabe & Monica Ahn
My name is Gabe Ahn, and this is my wife—the love of my life—Monica. We have been married since April 26, 2014, and we have the honor of being the Senior Pastors of HRock Church. In addition to being the Senior Pastors, I serve as Producer of HRC, and Monica is the Communications Director. We absolutely love what we do because we love people! Our passion is for those around us to experience the fullness of who they are in Christ and fulfill their God-given destinies. We may not have a family of our own—yet—but we desire to create a culture of family here at HRock.
I was born and raised on the East Coast, Maryland to be exact. And when I say “raised,” I mean for the first three years of my life, because in 1984 my family moved out to Los Angeles. Yeah, you can pretty much say that I’m a second-generation, pure Southern Californian. I love LA!
Halfway across the world and about two months later, my wife was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Both of her parents are Korean, but I always joke and say that she’s more Brazilian than Korean and American combined (not to mention the fact that Portuguese is her first language, and she speaks four other languages: English, Spanish, French and Korean).
I have three younger sisters: Grace, Joy and Mary. They are absolutely amazing, and I love them so much. Grace and Joy are married to Steve and Kuoching, respectively. Grace and Steve have a son named Justice, and Joy and Kuoching have a daughter named Annabelle. One of my greatest joys in life is being an uncle, and it is definitely preparing me for fatherhood.
Monica’s younger sister, Clara, and younger brother, Pedro, live with her parents in nearby La Crescenta. One of the greatest miracles that has taken place in their lives is the reconciliation and restoration of her parent’s marriage after 10 years of divorce. This major breakthrough was one of the reasons that helped lead Monica to the Lord a few years later.
In 2002, I graduated from Azusa Pacific University. I can honestly say that it was the four best consecutive years of my life. That’s where I feel I grew the most and discovered my identity. It was there that I also realized my dream to be in the Art and Entertainment Industry as an actor and now a producer, writer and director. I even want to own my own studio one day. These are dreams I’m still running after.
My wife, Monica, received her college education at Studio Bercot in Paris, France. It is ranked number 12 of all fashion schools in the world. Monica is extremely gifted in design as well as the business side of fashion. She also currently helps her parents, who are in the wholesale fashion industry in downtown LA.
There’s quite a story behind how my wife and I met, but to spare you the laborious details, we met at the end of 2009, dated for a few months, broke up, remained friends and then got back together on June 29, 2012. I proposed to her (surprise) on her birthday, October 30, 2013, and she said the “yes” I have waited to hear all these years. I think the best thing about our marriage is that we are best friends first, and partners second. We both can honestly say that we are God’s greatest gift to each other and each other’s “dream come true.”
I graduated magna cum laude from Azusa Pacific University with a degree in Communications (emphasis in Theater) and a double-minor in Theater and Christian Ministries. I also studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and following college, studied for over three years at the reputable Howard Fine Acting Studio.
Monica began her education in São Paulo at a private Catholic school. As mentioned before, she graduated from the prestigious Studio Bercot in Paris, but her most recent school involvement has been with our very own HRock School of Supernatural Ministry from 2012 to 2013.
Favorites and Interests
Both Monica and I love to travel. So far, in the last several months of our marriage, we have traveled to France, Santorini, England, Nicaragua, Kauai, Brazil and Israel. We have aspirations of traveling all over the world in our future, especially with our children one day.
Of course, most of our time is spent at home in Pasadena, but when we are not working or spending time with the fam or our friends, we love to just get away for the night. Dinner and a movie is one of our favorite things to do. Saying we like watching movies is a huge understatement. But then again, we both feel called to the Arts & Entertainment Industry, so I guess it makes sense.
One of the other things we love to do is stay active. Whether it’s going on a hike or working out at our favorite place, CrossFit Pendulum, we really value health and fitness. I personally enjoy sports (watching and playing) and try to play basketball or other sports at least once a week.
Monica and I are extremely blessed; so many great things in both of our lives are converging at once. Our prayer is that as we draw closer to Him, we will continue to grow in loving and laying down our lives for each other. He is a faithful Father!
